The USC Pacific Asia Museum is welcoming applications for an Education Specialist:
The successful candidate will be creative and professional, have strong communication skills, and be comfortable in a dynamic team environment. He or she must have up-to-date knowledge of current practices in gallery teaching, museum education, and volunteer management. BA required; master’s preferred. Prior art museum or education experience required. Periodic weekend and evening hours required.
Reporting to the Curator of Education, the Education Specialist manages the school and public tour programs, and volunteer program. Duties include:
•Work collaboratively with Docent Council to recruit and train docents.
•Provide ongoing professional development for docents and teaching artists regarding pedagogy, teaching strategies, and touring techniques.
•Oversee and collaborate with teaching artists to develop new hands-on workshops.
•Correspond with teachers and tour operators to schedule group visits.
•Collaborate with the Pasadena Educational Foundation to execute My Masterpieces partnership.
•Utilize coaching from consultants to design grant-supported updates to the volunteer program, including an extensive technological upgrade of records.
•Recruit, interview, and train new volunteers and cultivate a community of existing and new volunteers.
•Manage volunteers at public programs and outreach events.
•Plan appreciation events for volunteers, including large annual gathering in fall.
•Coordinate schedules with docents, volunteers, and teaching artists.
•Oversee ongoing evaluation of tour and volunteer programs.
•Other duties as needed to support the tour and volunteer programs and other efforts of the Education Department.

Directly related professional experience in program specialization, e.g., counseling or teaching.
