Presenter Megan Vixie

The presenter for this session is DOVIA Board President Megan Vixie, who has worked in the field of volunteer management for the past seven years.  Through her leadership at the Beach Cities Health District, the Volunteer Services program now hosts over 600 volunteers annually in more than 20 various programs.  In 2009, she led her team in merging Volunteer Services with Human Resources in order to streamline volunteer processes, creating more efficiency and support for volunteer programs. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre from Loyola Marymount University, a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree with an emphasis in Non Profit Administration from the University of Southern California and a Certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA).

Jumping Bravely with DOVIA

Rachel FrenchDOVIA-LA had a great meeting last Friday, with a goal-setting presentation by Rachel French of Protea Coaching (www.proteacoaching.com). Rachel led us through an exercise in identifying our values, and helping us think about re-energizing our lives by feeding those values regularly. What is it that you love about managing volunteers? Is it the connection to generous people? Or giving people the chance to give back and grow? Or is it mobilizing as many resources as possible to help your agency’s clients? Why do your volunteers continue working with your organization? Connection, learning, or affirmation? The workshop was a great reminder about keeping ourselves and our volunteers connected to passion and values to ensure a rewarding experience for all.
